Suze Mary Garner is an artist and educator from South Yorkshire. Deeply passionate about animals, her work is notably inspired by her dedication to supporting Sheffield Retired Greyhounds. These elegant creatures frequently appear in her art, symbolising both her advocacy and affection for them.
Additionally, Suze has also produced both small and large scale metal CorTen steel sculptures, some of which are on permanent public display; For example, 'The Cyclist’ which is situated on the roundabout in Penistone’s town centre.
Suze's artistic journey is deeply rooted in her upbringing in the rural farming landscapes of South Yorkshire. With a family background steeped in agriculture—her father and grandfathers were devoted farmers—Suze developed a profound connection to the animals she depicts. The hens, cows, and other farm animals in her work are more than just subjects; they are nostalgic representations that transport her and her audience to the simplicity and warmth of rural life.
In addition to her personal creations, Suze Mary offers custom commissions, capturing the unique essence of pets or other beloved animals in a range of bespoke sizes. She balances her role as the Head of Art in an independent school with the peaceful solitude she finds in painting.
Her alma mater includes her graduation with a BA in Graphic Design from Camberwell College, University Of The Arts in 2003. Then in 2013 she was awarded an MA in Artist Teachers and Contemporary Practices from Goldsmiths, University of London.
